There are lots of new things happening for The Green Pepper in the last few months.

New Ownership and Location

First, our company changed hands!  Susan Downs, who had started The Green Pepper with her mother 52(!) years ago in Oregon, sold the company to Folkwear LLC (owned by me, Molly Hamilton).  We made the announcement for the sale in late August, and moved all the inventory from Portland, OR to Asheville, NC at the end of September.  You can read the press release about the sale here

Luckily, we weathered the super destructive Hurricane Helene fairly well and got a new website built for The Green Pepper.  The new website allows us to also sell the hardware, notions, roll goods, and fabrics that are so useful when making The Green Pepper patterns.  We are excited to keep adding new things to the website, like improved pattern descriptions and links to hardware notions and fabric from the patterns.

Kits and PDFs

We have plans to start offering kits for some of our patterns, particularly the bag patterns.  These are great patterns to make as gifts for the holiday season. Plus, the convenience of ordering all the things you need to make the pattern at the same time is so helpful.

Another big project we are starting right away is to create PDF patterns for all of The Green Pepper's patterns.  This is a pretty big undertaking, but we have done this before and are very excited to start offering PDF options for patterns starting this week!  We will likely only be able to add a few patterns each month as PDFs, so if you have a pattern you desperately want available as a PDF, let us know!  Leave a comment here or send us an email (info@thegreenpepper.com).

The New Website

So please explore The Green Pepper's new website!  We have categories for all all patterns, notions, hardware, and fabrics.  We have sizing charts so you can figure out which size you might need to make:  Adults, Children, Hats, Glove/Mittens.  We also have a great About section.  And we have a way to review patterns as well!  If you have bought a Green Pepper pattern in the past, feel free to review the pattern, and show off a photo of it.  The option to review patterns can be found at the bottom of each pattern description.

And, as you can see, we are adding a blog to the site!  We will use this blog to write tutorials, sewing tips, and how-tos, and to show off your makes (as well as ours).  If you would like to contribute to the blog, please send us an email, info@thegreenpepper.com.  We love to see what our customers make!

Thanks for being here and feel free to drop a comment or suggestion!

I just learned about The Green Pepper from the owner of the fabric shop L’Etoffe, who linked you in a post. She encouraged her customers to make gifts. I spent about a hour perusing all the patterns. They are made for outdoor activities in nature, but are also great for making cool clothing to keep you warm in the city. That lined hood pattern! Nice to meet you.

I developed an appreciation for these patterns from my work at REI. I’m glad to witness the staying power of something done right. I’m excited to see what’s to come.

While I am saddened that we have lost such a jewel of a business here in Oregon (sniff, sniff), I wish Susan all the best, and to the new owners a hearty congratulations! So happy you weathered the hurricane as well as you did! Looking forward to shopping on the new website. :)

I just called Susan about a question and she told me you were taking over. Sooo happy for you. Susan helped me 35 years ago figure out what I needed for coats and snow pants for our two boys. I love these products! It’s so exciting to know someone else is continuing to bring these great products to sewers! Thank you!
