Overmittens protect against rain, snow, and wind and are worn over smaller mittens or gloves for extra warmth. Our sewing pattern creates an easy-to-sew version of overmittens with options for Cordura fabric for the palm for better gripping. These mittens have an outer layer and insulating lining. Adjustable D-ring straps close at the wrists to keep out the weather.
Suggested Fabrics:
Outer or Lining Fabric: Lightweight waterproof, waterproof breathable, or water-repellent fabric.
Insulating Lining: Hi-count nylon taffeta or ThinTech when using Thinsulate; or PolarTec; or Pre-quilted fabric.
Fabric Requirements, 45" or 60" fabric for all sizes:
Outer Shell Fabric: 1/2 yard (.46m)
Cordura for palm: 1/8 yard (.11m)
Lining Fabric: 1/2 yard (.46m)
Insulation (optional): 1/2 yard (.46m)
Notions:
Polyester thread, four 1/2" (13mm) D-rings.
Size Information:
Measure in inches from base of palm to tip of longest finger.
Small = 4-1/2"
Medium = 5-1/4"
Large = 6"
Note: Make one size larger if using extra thick insulation.
