The Green Pepper patterns have been around for more than 50 years! And in that time, sizing and grade rules changed a bit.  Many of the original Green Pepper patterns for women (the older patterns) reflect their age with their sizing range, which is sizes 8-16, or the current Adult sizing XS-MD.  This is a fairly small size range.  The men's sizing went from 34-48, which was slightly larger (up to XL).  You can see our sizing charts at this link and see the differences.

Over the years, one of the ways that The Green Pepper has tried to remedy this original small sizing is by creating the same pattern in larger sizes that are unisex Adult sizing.  For instance, the 101 Women's Santiam Vest has the original (old) women's grade rule of 8-16, but the 102 Adult's Santiam Vest is sized XS-2XL.  And since there is not much shaping for these outdoor wear patterns, the unisex sizing works great.  Another thing The Green Pepper did for several patterns was to increase the size by a by a size or two.  So some men's and adult's patterns go up to size 50 (when the original sizing was 46 or 48).

Below we have listed our patterns that come in larger sizes.  In the coming months and years, we will also be grading up some of the patterns, as needed, with older sizing when they come up for re-printing.

Also, when determining the size pattern to cut and make, be sure to take your measurements on top of whatever clothes you might be wearing underneath these garments, whether that is just underwear (or long underwear) or bulky sweaters.

We will also have a post soon on how to grade jackets up by several sizes.

And, if you have any particular requests for patterns in increased sizes, let us know in the comments.

THANK YOU for doing this. I’ve always loved Green Pepper patterns but no longer fit in the size range of the older ones I have. I’m looking forward to making the skyline jacket now!
