531 – Polar Bill Cap Pattern

An easy-to-sew pattern to make two styles of a billed polar fleece cap to keep warm in the cold weather. The Neckwrap Cap is a longer style that combines the look of a billed cap with the cozy warmth of a neck scarf; the front closes with velcro. The Earflap Cap has flaps around the ears for cold weather protection; and earflaps can be folded up when not needed.
Suggested Fabrics:
Fleece Fabric: PolarTec 200, 300, or Windblock, or any fleece that is not jersey and has stretch.
NOTE: Cap Fabric MUST have crosswise stretch for proper sizing.
Bill Lining Fabric: Any lightweight woven fabric, especially coated nylon
Bill Stiffener: Veltex or foam-backed interfacing.
Stretch Binding: 4-way stretch nylon/lycra.
Fabric Requirements, 60" (150cm) wide fabric; All Sizes:
Fleece Fabric: 1/4 yd (.23cm) for Earflap Cap; 1/2 yd (.46m) for Neckwrap Cap
Bill Lining Fabric: 1/4 yd (.23cm)
Bill Stiffener Fabric: 1/4 yd (.23cm)
Stretch Binding: 1/4 yd (.23cm)
NOTE: You can make two hats of any size and either style out of 1/2 yd of fleece fabric and yardage required for other fabrics.
Notions:
Thread; Earwrap Cap only: 1/8 yd (.12m) 3/4" hook & loop.
