RS150 Alpine Rucksack

A sewing pattern for a versatile and compact load carrying rucksack. Although it has no internal frame this is not a book bag! Designed for those activities demanding bulky gear and freedom of movement.

There have been three testing grounds for this pack. First backcountry skiing. The triple compression straps with release buckets make loading and unloading skis fast and secure. The narrow profile and sternum strap keep things out of he way and stable. Ice tool loops and crampon lash points are there for the early bird spring skiers
who want to be on top in time for the first sun-softened turns. For an afternoon of spreading tracks across the same bowl, the fanny pack option stows the climbing skins on the way down and the windbreaker on the way up.

Second, super light backcountry travel and mountaineering. For minimalist summer backpacking or shorter climbs, this capacity encourages you to travel light and fast. Just large enough for a light sleeping bag, bivy sack, clothes and food yet also able to attach ice tools, shovel, pickets and pad.

Third, rock climbing. Rock climbers are notorious for generating ridiculously heavy “day packs”. Small zippered packs just aren’t up to the task of toting that much hardware. With the rope, shoes and rack packed and balanced, you can hike to the base of the climb without feeling like a walking gear closet. Converting the top pocket to fanny pack mode is a great way to take water, a windbreaker or spare shoes to the top as well.
